Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs opens today. I saw it earlier this week and was blown away. I am always impressed when I can see the filmmaker’s thumbprint on the final picture.
In designing the characters, we envisioned the simplicity of Miroslav Sasek’s illustrations combined with the charm of the Muppets. We were constantly trying to simplify our shapes, and exaggerate the expression. The animators on the film did an amazing job of maintaining this style throughout the film. Here are some character designs.

Fantastic designs Pete! I was amazed at how well these were translated into 3d, and how the characters moved according to their design! definitley my favorite 3d film. Also, I love how the first thing you see is the big shapes, and only later the detail. usually in CG the first thing that pops to your eyes is the surface detail.
